Project Description
Unlike any other museum in Alberta, the Calgary Police Interpretive Centre, YouthLink, was designed and constructed to serve Calgary’s youth by providing an environment where they can not only learn about forensics but also find information and engage in honest conversation about issues that affect them: bullying, abuse, gangs and online safety.
The YouthLink building is the attached building of the CPS East Campus building located on McKnight Blvd. in NE Calgary. This building was acquired by The Calgary Police Service, and has been extensively renovated. MP&P role was to provide electrical design for power, lighting, communication, security, and fire alarm system.

Summary & Discourse on Design Approach
The first of three planned phases included the complete redevelopment of basement space, stairwells, vestibule area, and plaza area. The old fire alarm system and power distribution system in the building were redesigned to allow for the new usage and design of the building.
The second phase included the complete redevelopment of the second floor of the building. The second floor accommodates approximate 40 employees and 160 students and space allocation includes open office spaces, artifact work room, police school room, meeting rooms, conference rooms and washroom facilities. As with other police projects MP&P has worked on coordination. Review of design with individual operations team was key point throughout the design stage.
The final phase included the complete redevelopment of the main floor for exhibit design. The exhibit lighting design was highly significant as the proper light levels and patterns are required attracting visitor’s attention. MP&P has, therefore, worked on coordination and reviewed with exhibit design team throughout the design stage. Furthermore, MP&P provided close consultation with A/V system design team to interface A/V system with lighting control system.
